How can I obtain my lost high school diploma for a school that has been closed from the state of tennessee?
My high school was closed down around 1985 and I have since lost my high school diploma in which I obtained in 1981. I am just wondering if there is someone out there that can assist me in finding information on Memphis Technical High School or just information on how I can obtain my high school diploma again. Very much needed! Very much appreciated!

I'd try the Memphis City Schools Dept of Research. Their website says they handle student records. Good luck! http://memphisdemo2.extranet.urbanplanet.com/

What percentage of the population of Tennessee is in Nashville, and Memphis? (Two largest cities)?
What percentage of the population of Tennessee is in Nashville, and Memphis for each city? Not for school, I'm out of High School, just genuinely curious. Also found it interesting that almost the entire population of Tennessee minus Nashville could fit into Atlanta's.

As of the 2000 Census, Tennessee has a population of 5,689,283 people. The population of Nashville as of a 2006 census estimate is 1,533,406 people. Divide the population of Nashville by the population of Tennessee and we get 0.269525 or about 26.95% of the population resides in Nashville. Hope this helps!

Beale Street is the famous Blues Music street. Graceland is in Memphis, home of Elvis Presley. Overton Park and Zoo. The Mississippi River and Mud Island. The Lorraine Motel, which is the place where Martin Luther King was killed at. The National Civil Rights Museum. BB King Museum. Check the link below for more

Beale Street is lots of fun and that would explain why it's the second most visited street in the country. Of course, it's only 21 and up after hours. The Sam-Cooper area in Midtown is good for a day you want to stroll around and shop in unique boutiques. Of course there is Graceland (the second most visited house in the country). We also have the Stax Museum of Soul, The Civil Rights Museum, The Memphis Zoo and Aquarium (with pandas) and Sun Studios. Great malls for you to try are Wolfchase Galleria, The Oak Court Mall, and The Peabody. Great restaurants would include Rendezvous, Hard Rock Cafe, The Pier, Huey's, Blues City Cafe, etc. Come see us and have fun!

Graceland, Beal Street, the Pink Palace Museum, Memphis Botanical Garden, Baseball Game AutoZone Park The Peabody Hotel (very nice historic hotel) every day has the ducks come down the elevator and they march down a red carpet and walk to the fountain and get in...it's a big attraction here. I have lived here my entire life and it's still fun to see. Just email me if you need any more unusual ideas! Good luck!

You may have to write a letter to the school and have them give you a copy. I'm not sure if they are allowed to give copies though...but if they aren't, they certainly can write an official letter stating that you were a graduate and address it to any employer or other organization that needs it.
2
Phone the high school and ask them how you can go about getting the documents. Usually, it is just a matter of requesting your transcripts. You can request a new graduation certificate, but I don't know if they will do that.. not all places will.
3
Call the school and ask what can be sent for you. They may have an actual copy they can send, or a sealed letter stating your graduation information.

memphis has a high crime rate, and a bad reputation, i guess you probably know. i've been here for 20 years and not experienced that many problems, really, and i live in midtown which is said to be dangerous. what school is he going to? are you looking for an area of town to live in for the 3 mos? or is he staying on campus and you just want to know where not to go? there are 2 main streets that will keep you close to everything and in safe areas - poplar ave and walnut grove/(becomes union ave going west). check out a city map, any place along these 2 streets is safe and they go across the whole city. i think there are several areas of town with bad reputations, but unless you know someone there, you won't be going there anyway. just stay along those 2 streets for shopping, dining, and a place to stay. if you wander around you can pretty easily tell when you're getting close to an area where you don't feel comfortable. i actually like it here. take either of those streets all the way downtown, by the river, and you can find lots of fun places and the crime rate down there is actually low. have fun!

from what i can tell the entire city is crime riden. I hate to be the one to tell you, but it is not a good place to live.

from what ive heard the crime rate there is HIGH

You can always check with the Chamber of Commerce in any city for call the local Sheriffs dept. Let them know your concerns and they would be more than glad to help.

Is the University of Memphis a Safe School?
Is the University of Memphis a Safe School?
I am applying to graduate schools throughout Tennessee, and I would really like to know just how safe the University of Memphis is. I have told everyone I know that I am going to apply there, and they quickly retort with some sort of negative comment. Their English M.A. program looks great, but I don't want to die while trying to further my education. If anyone can give me some perspective on this issue, I would truly appreciate it.

I went there for a year (lived in Germantown, TN since i was 3 until last may). I lived on campus in Rawls Hall on State Street nearby the Tiger Den and Fed Ex building. There were a lot of rapes that happened while I was living there. Girls would walk out to their car (parked RIGHT across a not-so-main street in front of Rawls) And there a guy would attempt to rape them, etc. I only recall one or two actual rapes from there, though. I was studying in the library late one night, and a girl was stabbed just in front of the library. She was even walking with a group of people, and there were other people around. The guy ran up and grabbed her purse, and stabbed her and ran off. A lot of car jackings happen around there, too. I drove back to campus one night and saw one happening. There is Tiger Patrol, too (they drive golf carts around the campus, and offer rides to people.) you can call them at a certain number and they will come get you where you are. However, it's not THAT safe. They also break down a lot (the golf carts) and it turns into "Tiger WALKING Patrol" which doesn't do ANYTHING to help you really. There was a murder of a football player in campus apartments just last year. And there was another murder at the end of last year, too, i believe. There is a lot of crime around there. But that's just how Memphis is. The government is corrupt. Everything is going downhill FAST. It's decently safe, though. Surprisingly (after what I have told you). Although, I DID buy a 4" knife just in case. I carried it everywhere with me. Mace is good to have on hand, too. You can only carry knives up to 4" long on campus. Here is the University's site where they post all of the crimes on campus: http://bf.memphis.edu/police/incidents/ AND http://bf.memphis.edu/police/psa.php I hope this helps. I moved to Oklahoma for Photography school and to get out of that area. Even Germantown is showing evidence of becoming a bad area. It'll probably be just like Bartlett in about 5-10 years. It's unfortunate. Memphis is a beautiful place. Lots of history. Best of luck on your education.

Hi! As has been answered, Wolfchase is definitely the biggest mall, but if you would like a site that offers a little bit of comparison and can see the stores at the best area malls, check out this site: http://memphis.about.com/od/shopping/p/malls.htm Depending on where you live, a mall like Oak Court (upscale) in East Memphis or The Avenue Carriage Crossing in Southeast Memphis might also fit your needs without having to travel too far. Of course, if you're near Wolfchase (I 40 and Germantown Rd), then it definitely has the most selections, including: Macys Dilliards Sears JC Penney Abercrombie & Fitch Aeropostale American Eagle Outfitters Banana Republic Brooks Brothers Buckle FOSSIL Gap Guess? Hollister Co. Journeys PacSun Situation The College Station and much more! P.S. Go shopping the weekend of Aug 7-10... it's back to school Tax Free Holiday in Tennessee. If your Mom has you on a budget, you'll be able to get more by not having to pay sales tax!
