Is posting a list of couples at a school the correct action against increased public displays of affection?
In Memphis, Tennessee, a high school principal has come under fire for posting a list of known couples outside her office. This was mainly done in response to increased PDA in the school hallways, something of concern, understandably, to teachers and administrators. However, in doing this, she outed two gay students at the school who were in a relationship. She actually phoned one of the boys' mothers to inform her that he was in this relationship. This student has also been banned from attending a New Orleans school trip for fear that he'll "he would 'embarrass' the school by engaging in homosexual affection." Is this the right thing to do? Is this the best way to control PDA in schools?

I can understand the need for the schools to be careful regarding PDA. However I believe this one principal went too far. Sensitivity is not this administrator's middle name.

Personally, I think the principal needs to see a counselor!!!

well that sucks. bring attention to it...try to get the press involved what about the heteros...did they get banned from the trip?

seems pretty petty to me for a school official to do this. But in retaliation all the students in the school should pair up and make like they are in a relationship with another of the same gender. Then insist they all be added to the list. I suspect the principal will back off pretty fast once the whole school comes out as gay and demands they be on the list.

Its disgusting and homophobic. They should stop all the straight kids "engaging in heterosexual affection" too. Get the press involved...

hell no, it's a violation of privacy! it's no ones business who anyone is dating unless they want to make it be known. knowing who's dating who is not going to decrease PDA.... making PDA an offense punishable by detention- that will help. of course they must decide WHAT is PDA and enforce it across the board.

I don't believe that's right just because someone likes another doesn't mean that the principal should post it up in the school. And who cares if that embarrasses the school for someone gay.
