As a young woman, Mary Jones graduated from the Toronto public schools in 1854, at the age of seventeen. After graduation she began working as a tutor in Maine until she received her teaching certificate in the state of Michigan in 1857. She taught at St. Mary's Convent School in Monroe Michigan for only eight months however before relocating to Chicago, Illinois where she became a dressmaker. In 1860 however, Mary moved again to Tennessee where she returned to teaching. It was during her tenure as a teacher in Tennessee that Mary met and married George E. Jones. Mr. Jones was a dependable and devoted member of the Iron Molders' Union and occasionally traveled on union business. At times, Mary joined her husband, taking an interest in his efforts and learning about unions and the psychology of working men. Later in her life, Mary would advise women that, "the wife must care for what the husband cares for, if he is to remain resolute." I would also be sure to site the sources that this information came from, particularly the quote. If this is paraphrasing a source, you still must give credit to that source. 33 year old female in college for 2nd degree. Perennial student studying for doctorate.

Mary had a very interesting life beginning with her attendance in Toronto Public Schools to her graduation at 17 in 1854. Pursuing her dream Mary started work as a tutor in Maine the next year. From there she moved to Michigan to receive her teaching certificate in 1857 at only 20 years old! For the next eight months she taught at St. Mary's Convent school in Monroe, Michigan. Mary then briefly worked as a dressmaker in Chicago. However, her nature brought her back to teaching in the year of 1860 in Memphis, Tennessee. It was in Memphis that she met a devoted member of the Iron Molders' Union, George E. Jones, who she later married. Through him, Mary learned about unions and the psychology of working men. George taught her that, "the wife must care for what the husband cares for, if he is to remain resolute." and she later advised women the same. Age: 13 Sex: Female Education: Still in school 7th grade Occupation: Not old enough to work. HOPE THIS HELPED!!!

Am I Eligible for French 1?

Am I Eligible for French 1?
I'm a going to be a freshmen next year, and I really want to take French 1. The problem is that I need an average of a "90"(B), or higher for my 1st semester average. Right now I'm taking Enriched Language Arts (Advanced), and in my 1st 9 weeks I got a 90 (B), and in my 2nd 9 weeks I got an 85 (B), which makes my 1st semester average grade an "88" (B) (just 2 points from a 90!!!) Am I still eligible for French 1??? P.S. I don't know if the "enriched" language arts gives me an advantage since it read " You need a semester average of a "90" for your 1st Semester in English." (it doesn't read "enriched" just "English"[I go to Germantown Middle School in the Shelby County district (in Memphis) in Tennessee.] 5 Stars for Best Response. Thank You All, Sincerely.

Goodlettsville / White House Tennessee??? Information?

Goodlettsville / White House Tennessee??? Information?
I am from Memphis Tn, my family is considering relocating to the nashville area. When researching cities iv found that houses are in my price range and very nice in the Goodlettsville / White House area. It seems to be quite country living but still close to the city, and iv read great things about the schools in that area. Can anyone confirm this and/or give me more information about this area?? Thanks!!

I'm not sure if I answered questions for you previously about the area, but White House (from what I've heard) apparently is a little bit racist still- not 100% on this so forgive anyone who reads this if I'm wrong, but that's what I've heard. Yes, homes are way less expensive there, the schools are so-so for Sumner County and there is not much to do without driving, which eventually gets old, I think! No Walmart, nothing! Goodlettsville, you need to watch out for because most of the residential area is in Davidson County- where you don't really want to go to school. Parts are in Sumner County though- you just need to make sure. Also, property taxes are way less in Sumner County. Gallatin isn't as expensive as Hendersonville as far as homes, but the schools, again, aren't as good. As with all things, you pretty much get what you pay for and Hendersonville is the place to be for the best schools in Sumner. You CAN find homes for under $200,000 that are quite nice. We just bought a 2150 sq.ft. all brick house with 3 bed/2 bath upstairs and a full 1 bedroom apt with kitchen and full bath in the basement on grassy and wooded 3/4 acre near the lake for under$175,000. Look in the area off of New Shackle Island Rd. or the area between Walton Ferry Rd and Sanders Ferry Rd. Also, Hendersonville has way more shopping and restaurants and amenties on the whole then the other 2 towns, is on Old Hickory Lake and has easy access to Vietnam Veterans bypass which goes right to 65- about 30 minutes to Nashville. Why don't you come on out this way to check things out? I can't imagine anyone else answering this since it's pretty specific so here's my personal email- write and I'll give you and your family a tour if you'd like! I'm a 53 yr old grandmother who has 2 daughters and 3 grandkids living with me. I'm a nanny and I teach religious school at my synagogue- I'm actually a nice person! lydiagintn@yahoo.com I look forward to hearing from you and we can get into more detail! take care- Lydia

Please help me find the right town to live in Tennessee?

Please help me find the right town to live in Tennessee?
I am 18 years old, and will be moving just after I graduate high school. I currently live in California. Im interested in anything east of Memphis, because I don't want to live somewhere flat and tornado prone. I like to go out and have fun, but at the same time i want to live somewhere peaceful and laid back. I just don't want to live somewhere full of retired people and no one my age. I am fairly conservative, so maybe I wouldn't fit into a real liberal city. I attend a Christian church sometimes, so maybe not a real secular town. I love motorsports. I race go karts and dirt bikes, so if there is any kind of racing going on, I would love to check it out. I should be going to school, so I'm looking for somewhere with a community college or technical school near by. I know this is a lot, but I would really appreciate some help. Thanks yall

Columbia Tn. Nice small town has a community college, large population of transplants from all over the country, Only about 45 minutes from Nashville yet still maintains a quiet small town feel. Many small race tracks in surrounding towns with races on a pretty regular basis.

Can some one translate this text to afrikaans for me?
Can some one translate thisto Afrikaans? The online translaters don't work. Your help is really and truly appreciated. "My role model was born on January the 15th, 1929 in Atlanta Georgia. He grew up with in a family of three children, one sister and one brother. In 1948 he graduated from high school at the age of 15 with a B.A degree from Morehouse College. After 1951 he enrolled in graduate studies at Boston University, completing his residence for a doctorate in 1953 and received a degree in 1955. While in Boston he met and married Coretta Scott. He then went on to have two daughters and two sons. In the eleven-year period between 1957 and 1968, King traveled over six million miles and spoke over twenty-five hundred times, appearing wherever there was injustice, protest, and action. In these years, he led a massive protest in Birmingham, Alabama, that caught the attention of the entire world, providing what he called a coalition of conscience. He directed the peaceful march on Washington, D.C., of 250,000 people to whom he delivered his address, "l Have a Dream", on the steps of the Lincoln memorial. At the age of thirty-five, he was the youngest man to have received the Nobel Peace Prize. When notified of his selection, he announced that he would turn over the prize money of $54,123 to the furtherance of the civil rights movement. On the evening of April 4, 1968, while standing on the balcony of his motel room in Memphis, Tennessee, where he was to lead a protest march in sympathy with striking garbage workers of that city, he was assassinated. “he” is none other than Martin Luther King Jr. Not only is he my role model because of all of the things that he did, he also inspired many people stand up for their rights, which then led Barack Obama to do what he did today. I’ll close off with a saying that I read. “Rosa Parks sat so that Martin Luther King could walk, Martin Luther King walked so that Obama could fly. Obama flew so that we all can fly.” Thank you "

I am Afrikaans speaking so you can trust that this is pretty much a good translation. Note however that I'm not a journalist so I tried my best. If there is certain words or sentences that someone else could restructure it would maybe help but I believe everything would be pretty much OK. So here goes... 'Hy' is geen ander as Martin Luther King Junior. Dankie.

Honey, I think you'll be fine, as long as you find the right person. There will be people that will judge you for the drugs and the gangs and stuff, but ultimately you sound like a nice enough person (as long as you're being honest). It just simmers down to what people choose to judge you on. My boyfriends an epic stoner and although I'm not into it, it's not what I care about and I love him just the same. However, I must say that you're grammar is terrible.

Who should I ask for help for this recycling project?

Who should I ask for help for this recycling project?
Ok, so at my high school we have about well A LOT of students and we throw away about 1,500 milk and orange juice cartons away DAILY! I want to try to recycle these and give them to a paper factory or something so the can make it into paper that we could use or something like that. Who should I ask. I've looked everyone but I can't find a paper factory anywhere. Can someone please help me! And just in case you need to know I live in Memphis, Tennessee so anywhere around that area would be grand! Please help me as soon as you can!

I would suggest you call the City of Memphis Solid Waste Management. Note #1: Milk and orange juice cartons are not just cardboard. They are lined with polyethylene (a type of plastic) to keep the liquids inside. As a result it may be more difficult to recycle them into paper. Note #2: Rather than recycling, why doesn't your school try to reduce waste in the first place? They could buy milk and orange juice in big 10-gallon jugs rather than little 0.5-gallon cartons. Then there would be a lot less packaging in the first place.

Dream Interpretation? Please Answer!?

Dream Interpretation? Please Answer!?
Well last night I was watching Police Women Of Memphis Tennessee. In my dream I was in the mall with all my friends and I was debating on whether I should talk/keep a friendship with one of my other friends. (who was not at the table) I just shrugged and went onto a different subject. Then all the sudden I was at my aunts house which was 3 houses down from mine. I was outside in the drive way by the mailbox with some boy on a bike. All the sudden I saw my garage door open and these kids my around my age were taking things in boxes in my driveway. Inside my driveway the boxes held my parents things and stuff from my room. I realized they were robbing my family. The kid next to me asked if I am going to stop them since they are from my school and I know who they are. But I wait a minute until I start walking over to my house. Their was a girl on my street and she happened to help the robbers. She saw me and grabbed my my dads baseball bat and tried to hit me. I pushed her out of the way and walked into my house. The kids there were stunned and just froze. I looked around and everything was tipped over and my dog was outside with a laundry basket over him. Everything was trashed and they didn't know what to do. I called the police but they did not arrive for a while. I started to yell at the kids and said words that if I were to repeat I would be grounded for a month and spanked till im raw. Still screaming the police came in and looked at the crime scene. I called my grandma and told her what had happened and she says that she is sending my brother back from her house in Florida. I walked up stairs and got my video camera and started taping. I tilted the camera to the criminals. They put their heads down in shame as they were put into custody. I turned the camera off and said (This will be great on the school website) I smiled and then woke up. I don't understand it at all. None of this made sense. And please nothing stupid or rude. Thanks. :)

Another really great website is www.dreammoods.com, I use it for all of my dreams. Just type in what you want interpreted, i.e. mall, definition, To dream that you are at the mall, represents your attempts in making a favorable impression on someone. You are trying to establish your identity and sense of self. The mall is also symbolic of materialism and the need to keep up with the trends, fads, and/or the latest technology.Hope it helps.

Will my truancy charges be cleared? or what?

Will my truancy charges be cleared? or what?
Hi. Last thursday I had two essays to write for AP English, I decided to not do them and to skip the next day. None of my friends wanted to skip that day, so I was on my own. I parked on a new neighborhoods street and slept all day. I was woken up around 12 by the Shelby County Sheriffs Department, charged with truancy, given a juvenile summons, and taken to my school. I was given three days of out-of-school-suspension. I am a straight A student, in AP and honors classes. I am rank 22 of my class of 600, havea 4.4 weighted GPA, 25 ACT. Actively volunteer in my community. And I also hold a job at Schnucks grocery store working 25 hours a week. I also play rugby for a local club team. Last year i had ~15 excused absences from school. I have no past charges of any kind. Now, I give you my life story to ask you this: If i bring say my report cards and work attendance report and argue that "I am a good kid, that made a really stupid mistake," do i have a likely chance of the charges being dropped? If not, what punishment should I expect, for me and my mother. Btw, I live in memphis, tennessee. Ive tried searching for similar cases/scenarios but i have been unsuccessful, thanks in advanced. Should I ask my teachers and choaches to write me umm.. recommendations or something similar that are in my favor? @patticharron "The fact that nobody skipped with you is irrelevant. I find it interesting that you include these details." It was just part of me setting the scenario. I dont think ill bring a lawyer. . I see your standpoint somewhat, however, I do not see it being negative to show a good report card. Of course i wont brag as much as i happened to do in this question. I asked the officer at my school, he said to bring my report card. I asked my coach whom is a TBI agent, and he said to bring the report card. These people are part of the law enforcement, so their judgement/opinions seems to be more reliable. If you dont mind me asking, do you have some sort of qualifications/past experiences for me to go with your suggestion?

If this is your first offense, then argue the "I'm a good kid who makes good grades and I made a stupid mistake" defense. They'll let you slide this one time.

I always find it interesting when someone posts about something incredibly idiotic s/he did and then follows this with a long list of his/her credits, accomplishments, accolades and lack of a criminal past. Get a lawyer. Go to Court and plead stupidity. Instead of pointing out what a great kid you are, focus on the fact that you made an inordinately stupid decision. The fact that nobody skipped with you is irrelevant. I find it interesting that you include these details. Here's the short version of what you did: I made a stupid decision to skip school because I had not done my work. I don't know what got into me. I behaved badly and I regret my decisions. That's what I recommend you tell the Referee or Judge. Do NOT point out what a "good kid" you are. That is a judgment call and it is not for you to make. Stick to the facts, which include your stupid behavior. I am very familiar with the Memphis Public School System. Given what the judge sees day in and day out, I think you have a good chance of skating on this one. However, if s/he is fed up by the time it's your turn, that's another story. If you go with a lawyer, your case will be heard earlier. If you go on your own, you will sit until the end.

What do I do if I lost a library book?

What do I do if I lost a library book?
I recently checked out two library books- 'Warriors don't Cry', and 'Farewell to Manzanar'. I live in Memphis, Tennessee. I am 12 years old, and I have lost the book 'Warriors don't cry'! I go to Craigmont Middle, and if I left it there, there is no hope for me getting it back! (You can forget about it!) I also think that I left it in my Auntie's car. I also could have left it over my grandmother's house. (I walk there every day after school). But, today was different. As we were walking, we just so happened to see my auntie about to turn the corner, so we called for her, and she gave us a ride there. It is a possibility that I left it at school in my 6th period class. I JUST CAN"T REMEMBER WHERE I PUT THE DARN THING!!!!! Will I have to pay EXTRA money when I pay for it if I don't find it? Will the library put me on probation for losing a book? WHAT SHOULD I DO!!!?????????

The books usually only cost 10.00 or so.

2
In our library it wasn't a big deal. They just asked us to donate some other kids' books. Or they might make you pay for them. Don't worry about. It's not a big deal.

3
Libraries are surprisingly cool about it. They'll ask you to pay the replacement cost of the book, with identical binding if it was a special library copy. And if you should find it, or someone else does and turns it in, they'll give you back your money. (Save the receipt.) You won't get any kind of 'black mark' on your record, no probation, no borrowing limitations. Stuff happens, and you've taken responsibility for the loss.

4
Since you're 12, I'm sure they'll let you off easy. Usually they just ask you to replace the book, or to donate some other books of equal value. Us growed ups are usually asked to pay a fine, but I'm sure you won't be.

5
ugh youll just have to pay for it :( sorries

6
First tell your mother about it and if you have the checkout slip, bring that with you when you go to the library. I don't know how the library is run in Memphis, but in my library where I work, we would put it in our computer on "trace" this way there will be no added late fees on the book and when you find it, you would just have to pay a small fine. If you can't find, lets say in four weeks you would have to pay or the book. Don't worry you won't be on probation for losing the book. Hope you find your book.

In our library it wasn't a big deal. They just asked us to donate some other kids' books. Or they might make you pay for them. Don't worry about. It's not a big deal.

Since you're 12, I'm sure they'll let you off easy. Usually they just ask you to replace the book, or to donate some other books of equal value. Us growed ups are usually asked to pay a fine, but I'm sure you won't be.
