How much do income tax prepares make in Tennessee?

How much do income tax prepares make in Tennessee?
I attend college in Memphis, TN, and is on the verge of taking a course on how to prepare taxes so I'll be certified. I am also trying to supplement my income while in school to get my own place. Generally speaking, how much do income tax prepares make in the Memphis area? Anyone who is experienced is encouraged to give good veteran advice. Thanks,

simple answer - not a lot more than minimum. Long answer: I have managed a tax office for the last several years (I don't own the franchise, I just manage an office and do taxes) Depends on the employer most offer a base wage with a bonus for working all year and the number of returns completed. May be a percentage of the amount paid for the returns you prepared during the year instead of a fixed amount per return. In general the first year employees are only offered work through the end of the busy period, called peak, mid Feb.. You could be kept on after that if your performance was good and the office needs you or another office in the area can use you. For the past two years all of the folks starting in my office were retained, some left because they obtained full time jobs or did not like doing taxes. Generally I would work you 12 to 24 hours a week (3 to 6 days in four hour shifts). Before mid Feb. with a senior preparer and after possibly alone, depending on the volume of returns the office prepares. In my mid-volume office we work one person on per shift after peak, with someone on call if needed. With proper planning by the office supervisor they can work around your class and exam schedules as needed. Your not going to get rich, but it will put money in your pocket, gas in the car, books in the bag, lunch in your tummy ... and such. Good Luck, its a part time job and with refresher training annually can be a long term job as well.

Where can i meet other girls my age?

Where can i meet other girls my age?
I go to a private all boys school in memphis, tennessee so i can't meet girls through school. Im only 15 so clubs are out of the question (i have found a lot of sites on the internet that say to go to clubs). The mall is out of the question as well. About the only place I can think of is going to football games at my school but im in the school band and therefore, i play at the games (thank god i don't have to march though!). Anyway, if anybody has any ideas of places that woud be fantastic if you could help me out. If anyone has specific places that works too, i live in memphis, tennessee. Thanks again! By the way, i don't know if it makes a difference but i am up for either just a friendship or girlfriend/dating type relationship.

I have seen many of your questions and answers on Yahoo! and I feel as if I know you. I would never have guessed you were only 15. So I agree with the answer that says you could try meeting girls on the internet. You communicate very clearly (and maturely--which many people here do not) and your personality comes through the electronics. Of course you could be dishonest about things, but if you want ANY kind of relationship with a girl you have to be honest with her. The internet might be a way just to practice talking to a girl, which is what you need. Find out how to talk to her and get to know her. You are obviously intelligent to know that there are some sites good for this and some sites you should stay away from. Something else you could try that no one else has mentioned is going to a church. I chose which church in my small town to attend by noting which one had the most and prettiest girls. You don't have to be denominational. Girls you meet in church can have just as many bad habits, and bad histories as girls you meet any where else. But it is at least a good "clean" START for any relationship. Note the part about "histories". It is important to know her history to really get to know a girl. Some of them you will not want to get know. But church is a great place to meet someone your age. Their families, if in attendance, will more willingly accept some one she met at church. It's free (no minimum at least). And there are a lot of them to choose from. Bon chance!

Does anyone know of anyone know of any college pre-law institues?
I have found a couple of pre-law institutes to help prep for law schools. They include Nebraska, Georgetown, Tennessee and Memphis. The other ones I saw were for high school. If anyone knows of any schools with one plz let me know. Thanks!

Many schools have pre-law tracks or programs, but your best bet is to major in something you like and at which you excel-- not necessarily the usual political science or criminal justice tracks, either. Think about the kind of law you want to do. If, for instance, you have a strong interest in biology or engineering, study that. You can parlay that into patent law, for instance-- which can be very lucrative. Be sure to use your summers to do some outstanding internships-- do research as there's lots of great stuff out there. Be sure to develop (and develop evidence of your skills) in writing, research, and critical thinking. Take Reasoning and Argumentation, for instance. Take Ethics. Take Research Methods. It's great you have a goal as to what you plan to do already-- it will allow you to better gain the experience that will stand you out. At the end of the day, your unique set of experiences-- not just enrolling in a pre-law program-- will serve you best. Get into the best undergrad program you can, and start studying for the LSAT now.

2
Memphis reigns high in pre-law all across the board. I know so many people who went there and now go to Harvard. Memphis' business school is top shelf too.

For preparation for law school, it is tough to beat Holy Cross. At Holy Cross each year, more than 100 Holy Cross graduates (15% of the class of 700) enter law schools accredited by the American Bar Association – one of the highest rates in the nation. Holy Cross has award-winning moot and mock trial teams and a unique student-published law journal, providing graduates with meaningful experience that appeals to the nation's top law schools. For the second year in a row, a Holy Cross Moot Court team placed second in the National Moot Court Competition, making them among the top competitors in the nation.

This was my MLK porject for school (im in 7th grade)?

This was my MLK porject for school (im in 7th grade)?
Martin Luther King Jr. Essay On August 28, 1963 a man finally spoke up about racism. Back then racism was a big problem, between the whites and the blacks. This man was Martin Luther King Jr., and held a very powerful speech. It was called his “I Have a Dream “speech. This was a very powerful speech that anyone has ever said, and it made a very big difference between races. His grandfather began the family's long tenure as pastors of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, serving from 1914 to 1931. His father has served from then until now, and from 1960 until his death Martin Luther acted as co-pastor. Martin Luther attended segregated public schools in Georgia, graduating from high school at the age of fifteen. He received the B. A. degree in 1948 from Morehouse College, a Negro institution of Atlanta from which both his father and grandfather had graduated. In Boston he met and married Coretta Scott, a young woman of artistic attainments. Two sons and two daughters were born into the family. In 1954, Martin Luther King accepted the pastorale of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. Martin Luther King Jr. dream was that all men and women are equal and they deserve justice, and should have freedom. He wanted all races and cultures to get along, and be together. He says America should be a great place to live, and people shouldn’t be judged on how they look or what skin color or what age they are, but how they treat you and how they act and there characteristics. Martin Luther King held this speech on August 23, 1963.He spoke of many things. One was "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal." He also sang this song "My country, 'tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing. Land where my fathers died, land of the pilgrim's pride, from every mountainside, let freedom ring." He wished for freedom! Martin Luther King Jr. had a good childhood, and when he was little. He used to go to school, church, and went to many family gatherings. When he was little, he had some white friends. His mom cought him playing with them, and he couldn’t play with them anymore. As he got older, he went through many colleges. He was a preacher, and worked very hard as a young adult. He graduated out of high school at the age of fifteen. He received the B. A. degree in 1948 from Morehouse College, a distinguished Negro institution of Atlanta from which both his father and grandfather had graduated. Two sons and two daughters were born into the family. In 1954, Martin Luther King accepted the pastorale of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. He had a very good life, and was assasinated on the evening of April 4, 1968 while standing on the balcony of his motel room in Memphis, Tennessee, where he was to lead a protest march in sympathy with striking garbage workers of that city, he was assassinated. Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream was achieved in a way. If it wasn’t for him, racism would still be a big act in the 2000’s. Racism and slavery was a big thing back then, the white people had more advantages than the blacks, and whites had more opportunity blacks. If Martin Luther King Jr. was still alive, he might be a little distonished with how much crime the world has, but racism isn’t allowed anymore. School’s and publics services are mixed between any race, from blacks, to white, to mexicans, and everyone has equal rights and freedom. Law’s against racism have increased, and has made a difference. Through my point of view, I think his dream was accomplished, but there is now a new problem they are inforcing on, and it’s because of racism, and it’s crime. Hopefully someone can make another speech, as strong as Martin Luther King Jr.’s powerful speech, so America can have no crime, no racism, and everybody can get along.

med school perspective with a spanish and biology degree?

med school perspective with a spanish and biology degree?
i'm in undergrad pursuing a degree in both spanish and biology (a double major.) i'm having a hard time in my biology classes (no c's, but lots of b's) and my current gpa is a 3.47. i haven't taken the mcat yet, but i'd like to get into a decent medical school, maybe university of tennessee at memphis, university of alabama at birmingham, or university of southern florida. can anyone tell me how much it helps to have a language degree? i'm told that bilingual students, and especially students who hold a degree in a foreign language, have a good shot at med school because of it. please be honest; i want to get a good idea about how much i'm going to get out of all this hard work. only kind (but truthful) answers please. i know none of you can say if i will or will not make it into med school, and not knowing an mcat score makes it harder too. but thank you very much!

You don't need to major in a science. You can major in anything you'd like, including Spanish, and get into med school. So if being a bio major isn't helping you out... don't be a bio major. It's important that you do complete all the med school pre-req classes, which are: - 1 year bio w. lab - 1 year gen chem w. lab - 1 year organic chem w. lab - 1 year physics w. lab - math through stats, ideally through calc - 1 year English - other science classes - certain med schools want specific classes beyond what I've listed. So long as you do that, you can major in Spanish, no problem. I see no real advantage to having a Spanish degree instead of, say, music, or English, or history. But it's certainly different from the sea of bio majors med schools normally see, and that can be a good thing. In addition, being bilingual Spanish/English will certainly help you once you start to practice medicine, and can help you find jobs. It's an advantage. I would like you to bring your overall GPA up to around a 3.6 to better your chances at med school. I also want you to increase your science GPA by quite a bit. Get tutors if you need to - it's that important. Your 3.47, with Bs in your science classes, is not good enough to get you into a US med school right now. Do physician shadowing, health-related volunteer work, other volunteer work that involves helping people (serving soup at a soup kitchen, etc.) If it interests you and you have the opportunity, get involved in a professor's research on campus.

I know of a college in Michigan called Calvin College. One of their writing professors has either been nominated or won a Newbery award for Children's literature in the past few years. As for the excellence of the program itself, I do not know. Although the professor's achievements speak well for their writing department.

University and Tennessee Game?!?

University and Tennessee Game?!?
It seems to me that people are using "FLAWED REASONING" in predicting that Tennessee will win. I am a die hard Memphis fan yet considering my siblings are alumni of Tennessee, I support the school too. However, I believe the game could go either way. I renounce the fact that people say that Memphis has not been challenged. What do you think of USC, Georgetown, Arizona, and Gonzaga if they have not been challenged. Furthermore, UAB gave them a run for their money. Houston and UTEP played hard against them (Houston does not get the props they deserve by the way). David Gomez from Tulane was just one of few people on the team that kept SEVERAL Memphis players in check. So with this said, could someone explain with SENSEFUL REASONING WHY THEY THINK MEMPHIS OR TENNESSEE IS GOING TO WIN THE GAME? ***And by the way Memphis is one of the worse freethrow shooting teams in the country and still get the job done and make good shots when they are really needed.

If you are a true Tiger fan pray for a loss because nobody goes undefeated and wins a national title! You'd rather loose in Feb than March! Oh yeah - Go Heels!

I am applying for Medicaid and food stamps will the father of my child be placed on child support?

I am applying for Medicaid and food stamps will the father of my child be placed on child support?
I am a nineteen year old girl and I stay in Memphis, Tennessee. Right now however I am in Jackson, Tennessee where I currently attend school. When I went to the health department in Jackson I applied for Medicaid, WIC, and food stamps. I applied for Medicaid because right now I am under my dad's insurance but after my baby is born the baby will not be covered. I heard that if I apply for Medicaid that my baby's father will be placed on child support? If so why?

Not true. You have to file for it.

2
Yes, the state will take him to court for reimbursment, balance going to you.

3
Because someone has to pay for that baby and it may as well be the parent instead of the rest of the citizens.

4
if ur babies daddy is around helping out already dont worry about it. otherwise its a good thing. all u need is his name and social security and they got him..im not sure how the whole process works because im married to my babies dad...he supports us anyways. i do have medicaid for myself and my baby and the baby im about to have...i didn't see anything while i was filing paper work about child support. they only ask u if the father of the child lives with u. where he lives. what his name and SS# is. i live in Texas..i cant imagine its that different in Tennessee. i think that child support may be a different thing from medicaid entirely. i think that they have to do a paternity test ..usually the father of your child is served a mandatory subpoena to court and asked to take a mandatory paternity test. and i think u have to have a lawyer to do that..but im not sure. its definitely something u should ask one of the people at the health and human services commission in your state. the phone number is 2-1-1 here.. im sure they have something similar in Tennessee.

5
They make you file for child support. If you don't then you can lose the medicaid and food stamps because you didn't follow through. It the state law that you get government assistance then you have to file for child support. Then the father have to pay child support that also helps medicaid pay some of the child medical expense that your child going to need. I am mother that on medicaid and food stamps and I had to file if I didn't would lost them.

6
If you live together (and have proof, like a lease with both of your names) then no, he doesn't have to pay child support. If you do not live together, regardless of the reason why you don't live together, the state will go after him for child support. If the state has to help support your child then the dad does too. If he pays say, $250 per month in child support, $175 may go to you and the rest goes to the state to reimb them for your foodstamps and medical and stuff.

7
He will be responsible for the medical, because the state is paying it and have to get their money back. And it is the fathers responsibility to carry insurance on the child.

8
Help pay for the baby and his/her and ur needs.

9
Medicaid and Wic has nothing to do with the father, but if you apply for food stamps then he's gonna be put on child support. I'm not sure why they do this. Also if you apply for food stamps they're gonna make him take a DNA test before they make him pay child support. My friend tried this and she was denied because the guy she thought was the baby's father. I think they do that because they think if you can't pay for food then you must need help paying for other things. Maybe the law is different down here in the State below you but I don't think it would be.

10
The state will have their own case against him for reimbursement. It is your choice if you want to file for child support that is directed toward you. I don't get Medicaid or food stamps but I did file for child support long ago. Then I realized it was pointless, and had the case dropped.

11
Yes they will go after him. Not only will he have to pay child support but the money you get from the state for the child he has to pay that back.

12
Yes he will be put on child support. The reason is that you are unable to completely support the child on your own or you would not need help and since you need help it should be him giving the help not the taxpayers. Dont get me wrong - go get them if you need them. Food stamps help sooo much. But yes he will have to start sending you some money and face it, you need it.

13
maybe and maybe not. my dad moved out and my mom had to get medical assistance for my 2 brothers and i. she also got food stamps. my father has never had to pay child support. he has never been told by the state that he has to.

14
Because the parents of a child should be the ones providing health insurance and food and clothing. His child support will reimburse the tax payers for the baby's insurance he is not providing.

15
Kinda, you will file a paper with the welfare office and they send the form to the child support office. The father will be responsible for the medical costs used. I'm not sure if he has to pay 100% of what you use or just part. They make it a requirement that you fill the paper out so they can go after the father for the cost. You ask why, it is because someone has to pay for it. The taxpayers, people who work, pay extra taxes and pay increased medical insurance rates in order to pay for you using the medicaid. The county tries to take that burden off the taxpayers and have the father pay because the baby is his and not the taxpayers. He (and you) have the ultimate responsibility not the taxpayers. Taxpayers have their own kids to pay for. A lot of people pay almost $1000 per month for their family to have health insurance and these are not rich people they are people making about $3500 per month.

16
In most states, if you apply for benefits, t he state will go after the father to pay them back for what they give you. You wont get the money, the state will.

The state schools for each are pretty good, Tennesse and Ole Miss, then there's Vanderbilt in Nashville, Auburn in Alabama, the Georgia schools like UGA and Emory, and once you get into North Carolina they're endless (UNC, Duke, NC State)...

Kinda depends on what you want to study and how much you want to spend. Delta State might be a good choice for you. Good luck deciding. Take it easy on your family.

It's beautiful in the Fall, though. UT (Univ. of TN) is a good school, though. I've heard of Crichton, but I don't know much about it.

Can a 16 year old choose what parent he wants to live with in Memphis Tennessee Courts?
My father doesnt do much with me or for me he doesnt buy me anything and the school I go to is a so called good school but it is racist. My mother buys all of my things and we do things. My fathers side we just visit my step mothers family and i visit my real family with my mother. I rather live with her but my dad thinks he does the right things but he doesnt and he thinks she doesnt. Any advice. I Live with my dad now and Iv'e been living with him for 10 or 11 years and there is lack of food, he never buys me anything, my room just has a bed, nightstand that he bought, and tv (that my mom bought. no dresser, i barely have clothes and the ones i have are ones my mom bought. he only bought me 1 thing for christmas and he got it like 4 months after christmas. She has bought me a laptop, ipod, playstation 3 and more in 3 christmas's. And now all of a sudden he wants child support. She only gets 600 out of her check after paying bills, and hes trynna get 500 per month and hes not going to spend it on me. so if she is giving him the child support i really wont have anything cause she buys everything.

The judge will definitely listen to who you prefer to live with at your age. It will be primarily your decision. Unless there are some major problems with your mother it shouldn't really be a big issue. You are old enough at 16 to decide where you want to be unless there is proof of your mom being abusive or negligent.

2
yes!

3
At 16, you determine 100% who you want to live with.... If there is record that he doesn't pay child support, and that you have lived with your mother for the majority of your life, then there's no reason to worry...The Family Court Judge will speak with you, and as long as you stress your need to stay with your mother, then there is no problem (Unless your Mom has had incidents with the police, or been investigated by Family Services for Neglect or Child Endangerment.) If none of that has ever happened, and you want to stay with your Mother, then quit worrying...At 16, you hold your fate in your hands......Smile dear.. :) Good Luck!!

4
Since you are older, the courts will be more likely to listen to your testimony. I would tell the judge or whoever exactly whats going on.
