Martin Luther King Jr. Essay On August 28, 1963 a man finally spoke up about racism. Back then racism was a big problem, between the whites and the blacks. This man was Martin Luther King Jr., and held a very powerful speech. It was called his “I Have a Dream “speech. This was a very powerful speech that anyone has ever said, and it made a very big difference between races. His grandfather began the family's long tenure as pastors of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, serving from 1914 to 1931. His father has served from then until now, and from 1960 until his death Martin Luther acted as co-pastor. Martin Luther attended segregated public schools in Georgia, graduating from high school at the age of fifteen. He received the B. A. degree in 1948 from Morehouse College, a Negro institution of Atlanta from which both his father and grandfather had graduated. In Boston he met and married Coretta Scott, a young woman of artistic attainments. Two sons and two daughters were born into the family. In 1954, Martin Luther King accepted the pastorale of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. Martin Luther King Jr. dream was that all men and women are equal and they deserve justice, and should have freedom. He wanted all races and cultures to get along, and be together. He says America should be a great place to live, and people shouldn’t be judged on how they look or what skin color or what age they are, but how they treat you and how they act and there characteristics. Martin Luther King held this speech on August 23, 1963.He spoke of many things. One was "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal." He also sang this song "My country, 'tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing. Land where my fathers died, land of the pilgrim's pride, from every mountainside, let freedom ring." He wished for freedom! Martin Luther King Jr. had a good childhood, and when he was little. He used to go to school, church, and went to many family gatherings. When he was little, he had some white friends. His mom cought him playing with them, and he couldn’t play with them anymore. As he got older, he went through many colleges. He was a preacher, and worked very hard as a young adult. He graduated out of high school at the age of fifteen. He received the B. A. degree in 1948 from Morehouse College, a distinguished Negro institution of Atlanta from which both his father and grandfather had graduated. Two sons and two daughters were born into the family. In 1954, Martin Luther King accepted the pastorale of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. He had a very good life, and was assasinated on the evening of April 4, 1968 while standing on the balcony of his motel room in Memphis, Tennessee, where he was to lead a protest march in sympathy with striking garbage workers of that city, he was assassinated. Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream was achieved in a way. If it wasn’t for him, racism would still be a big act in the 2000’s. Racism and slavery was a big thing back then, the white people had more advantages than the blacks, and whites had more opportunity blacks. If Martin Luther King Jr. was still alive, he might be a little distonished with how much crime the world has, but racism isn’t allowed anymore. School’s and publics services are mixed between any race, from blacks, to white, to mexicans, and everyone has equal rights and freedom. Law’s against racism have increased, and has made a difference. Through my point of view, I think his dream was accomplished, but there is now a new problem they are inforcing on, and it’s because of racism, and it’s crime. Hopefully someone can make another speech, as strong as Martin Luther King Jr.’s powerful speech, so America can have no crime, no racism, and everybody can get along.
