I want to be a writer, but don't really want to move too far away from home (Memphis), but I do want to get away from the Tennessee life for a couple of years. Any thoughts?

I know of a college in Michigan called Calvin College. One of their writing professors has either been nominated or won a Newbery award for Children's literature in the past few years. As for the excellence of the program itself, I do not know. Although the professor's achievements speak well for their writing department.
